Grace Veras Sealy
Grace Veras Sealy has been fascinated and awed by pregnancy, birth and lactation since she was a little girl in the Dominican Republic. The birth of her own two daughters and the experiences of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding helped her experience for herself the life altering transformation that comes along with having a baby, that was surprising even after years of being a birth doula. The ups and downs, the love, the anxiety, the steep learning curve and emotions that come along with being a sleep deprived new parent led her to switch her concentration from birth support to prenatal education and postpartum and lactation support. She is deeply committed to supporting new or soon-to-be parents by providing non-judgmental, evidence based, quality education and care to them and their partners; which is why being a part of the Oula family is so exciting to her because of Oula's commitment to quality maternity care that is built upon the values of collaboration and race equity, values that are very important to her.
Grace has been a certified postpartum doula since 2014 and a certified lactation counselor since 2012. Although not attending births these days she has attended over 90 births since 2002. She is a Certified Advanced Holistic Birth Doula through The Matrona, Certified Postpartum Doula through Childbirth International (CBI), and is a Certified Lactation Counselor from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP) and is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. She has also achieved certifications as a Birth Doula from the organization Doulas of North America (DONA) and as a Newborn Care Specialist through the Newborn Care Training Academy (NCTA), and has been certified in Infant and Toddler CPR and Basic Life Support. She has also worked as a Birth Assistant at the Brooklyn Birthing Center and with several home birth midwives.
