Oula Patient Safety Organization (PSO)

About

Oula Health established the Oula Patient Safety Organization (PSO) to strengthen the safety and quality of the collaborative obstetrics, gynecology and midwifery care we provide. A Patient Safety Organization is a federally recognized entity that enables healthcare providers to review and analyze clinical experiences in a confidential, legally protected environment designed to promote learning and system improvement.

Through the establishment of the Oula PSO, Oula advances a structured approach to identifying patterns of risk, reducing preventable harm and continuously improving outcomes for birthing people and their newborns.

Mission

The mission of Oula PSO is to improve maternal and newborn health and the quality and safety of obstetric and gynecologic care. Oula PSO conducts Patient Safety Activities that include the collection and analysis of clinical outcomes and patient safety events, identification of system-level improvement opportunities, and dissemination of evidence-informed recommendations to participating clinicians. Central to this work is fostering a culture of safety grounded in transparency, accountability and continuous learning.

How the PSO Works

Clinicians participating in Oula PSO voluntarily submit patient safety information, including Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP), in a secure and confidential manner. Information is collected in a standardized format to allow meaningful aggregation and analysis across care settings. Oula PSO reviews and analyzes submitted data to identify trends, develop actionable insights, and support system-level improvements.

As appropriate, information may be combined and de-identified to generate broader quality analyses and benchmarking reports, which are shared with participants through confidential feedback sessions, case reviews and educational forums. The purpose of this work is to strengthen care systems and reduce risk through proactive learning and collaboration.

Our Commitment

Participation in a PSO reflects Oula’s commitment to rigorous quality improvement, thoughtful risk identification and the safest possible care experience. By engaging in structured, protected review processes aligned with the framework of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Oula reinforces its dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in maternal healthcare.
