Our Birth Approach
HOSPITAL BIRTH WITH THE OULA TEAM
Oula babies are delivered at the hospital with the Oula care team, in close partnership with hospital specialists. We can call in world-class pediatricians or neonatologists right away, if needed.
EARLY LABOR AT HOME
We support early at-home labor for low-risk pregnancies. When you go into labor, you'll consult your OBGYN or midwife over the phone and they'll let you know when it's time to head to the hospital.
PAIN MANAGEMENT, YOUR WAY
Epidural, nitrous oxide, acupressure, or breathwork—it’s your choice. And you can change your mind.
WE LOVE DOULAS
We're happy to welcome your doula to our care team or to help you find one that fits your budget.
IMMEDIATE BONDING WITH BABY
Immediate skin-to-skin and delayed cord clamping are standard practice at Oula. We support your feeding choices and perform routine medical care without separating you from your baby. In case of a c-section, we'll work to minimize separation.
FREEDOM TO MOVE
We’re here to help you get into whatever position feels best for you, and can also provide suggestions. We've got peanut balls and you can bring music if you want to dance or just chill out.
WE WILL NEVER RUSH YOU
We take a hands-off approach to your labor as long as everything looks safe and healthy for you and your baby.

MEETING YOU WHERE YOU ARE, WITHOUT JUDGMENT
As a physician myself, I can say with complete confidence that Oula provides compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based care. A traditional OB practice probably would have pushed me to get a c-section, but the team went above and beyond to support a safe vaginal delivery. 10/10 would choose again.Margot H.
I recently switched care to Oula from a traditional OB practice and I am so glad I did! I feel incredibly heard, respected, and informed regarding every question I have and decision I have made thus far in this pregnancy. The midwives and OBs take care to give real evidence and data behind why every recommendation is given.Alexandra Y.
Every OB and midwife we saw actually listened, and cared, and then followed through with clear recommendations. Every interaction was intentional and kind.DANIELLE S.
Traditional OB/GYN-only care during my first pregnancy was fine but I often felt rushed and not fully informed. This time I wanted something different. With Oula I have found the perfect blend of midwife & OB/GYN care: never rushed, never judged, and I truly feel the whole staff cares about me and the baby.Nicole S.
Finding Oula was such a blessing because I didn't have to choose between the emotional support of midwives and the piece of mind from OBGYNs. Oula bridged the gap and made me feel like I could have it all.Abby M.
If you are looking for evidence-based medicine with the utmost empathy and personalized care, Oula is your place. The entire team from the front desk to the incredible midwives and OBGYNs are outstanding. My delivery had a complication, and I saw an Oula OBGYN at the hospital who listened and respected my birth plan. One of the midwives delivered our baby and I can't imagine a more calm, competent, and supportive team.

FAQ
What is a midwife?
Midwives are medical experts who specialize in supporting people through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. They focus on low-intervention, personalized care, while working with OBGYNs if any complications arise. Midwives are trained to consider your lived experience—physical, emotional, and personal, ensuring that your care reflects your individual needs and preferences.

How do midwives & OBGYNs work together at Oula?
At the clinic: You will see a midwife for the majority of your prenatal appointments at the Oula clinic. Oula OBGYNs are involved in your prenatal care too! They are monitoring all pregnancies, working hand-in-hand with our midwives, even if you don’t see them regularly. However, we understand that your care should reflect your individual needs and preferences. If you want to see Oula OBGYNs more frequently throughout your care journey, just ask anyone on your care team and we’ll get you scheduled.
At the hospital: Both Oula midwives and OBGYNs are at the hospital 24/7 to support all Oula patients. If you have a planned or un-planned c-section, the Oula OBGYN will provide the expert surgical care needed and they will round on you daily after your surgery to provide any medical support needed during your hospital stay.
Does Oula take insurance?
Yes, we do! We are in-network with most major insurance providers, including some Medicaid carriers. Note that each insurance company has dozens of plans, so we’ll need to verify the eligibility of your exact plan.
When should I schedule my first visit?
Unlike standard maternity care, we’ll see you as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test. Your pregnancy care at Oula starts with a Pregnancy Intake visit, regardless of how far along you are.
