Full service prenatal care

Most maternity clinics won't see you until well into your first trimester. At Oula, we're proud to support you as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test. Your pregnancy journey includes virtual and in-person prenatal appointments, in-office sonography, hospital delivery with the Oula Care Team, and support through the fourth trimester.

Pregnancy and birth education

Birth education is woven into every aspect of your care at Oula. In addition to keeping you informed during visits, we offer an array of virtual classes and office hours, such as our Birth Plan Workshop and Final Stretch Office Hours.

Hospital birth with our team

At the hospital, your Oula providers lead your care, partnering closely with hospital staff. You can trust us to deliver research-backed care while keeping you involved in every decision related to your birth.

Postpartum support

We’re here for you, even after baby arrives, continuing to check in throughout those crucial first weeks to ensure you feel supported. You’ll also have ongoing access to our resources, including our Newborn Feeding group, for expert guidance during this important time.

Our Birth Approach

HOSPITAL BIRTH WITH THE OULA TEAM

Oula babies are delivered at the hospital with the Oula care team, in close partnership with hospital specialists. We can call in world-class pediatricians or neonatologists right away, if needed.

EARLY LABOR AT HOME

We support early at-home labor for low-risk pregnancies. When you go into labor, you'll consult your OBGYN or midwife over the phone and they'll let you know when it's time to head to the hospital.

PAIN MANAGEMENT, YOUR WAY

Epidural, nitrous oxide, acupressure, or breathwork—it’s your choice. And you can change your mind.

WE LOVE DOULAS

We're happy to welcome your doula to our care team or to help you find one that fits your budget.

IMMEDIATE BONDING WITH BABY

Immediate skin-to-skin and delayed cord clamping are standard practice at Oula. We support your feeding choices and perform routine medical care without separating you from your baby. In case of a c-section, we'll work to minimize separation.

FREEDOM TO MOVE

We’re here to help you get into whatever position feels best for you, and can also provide suggestions. We've got peanut balls and you can bring music if you want to dance or just chill out.

WE WILL NEVER RUSH YOU

We take a hands-off approach to your labor as long as everything looks safe and healthy for you and your baby.

MEETING YOU WHERE YOU ARE, WITHOUT JUDGMENT

I recently switched care to Oula from an OB and I am so glad I did! I feel incredibly heard, respected, and informed regarding every question I have and decision I have made thus far in this pregnancy. Midwives take care to give real evidence and data behind why every recommendation is given.

I wanted a holistic pregnancy experience where I felt heard and seen as a woman of color. That's exactly what I got from Oula! The beautiful space in Brooklyn always got me excited to go to all my appointments. The entire team is so attentive and thoughtful. 10/10 rating, and I plan to come back for my next pregnancy.
I am incredibly happy with the quality of care I have received from the Oula team throughout my pregnancy, delivery and postpartum journey. I have always felt heard and respected, and everyone on the team has provided a compassionate, evidence-based approach to my care that has helped me to be informed and empowered in my decision-making. This is how I wish all health care was like!

My first pregnancy ended in a traumatic labor experience and emergency c-section that was rushed and likely unnecessary. For my 2nd pregnancy I really wanted a VBAC. I wanted to be supported and heard throughout my pregnancy. I wanted there to be focus on my preferences as well as mine and my baby's safety.

FAQ

What is a midwife?

Midwives are medical experts who specialize in supporting people through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. They focus on low-intervention, personalized care, while working with OBGYNs if any complications arise. Midwives are trained to consider your lived experience—physical, emotional, and personal, ensuring that your care reflects your individual needs and preferences.

What is the difference between Oula and a regular OBs office?

At Oula, our midwives lead the majority of your prenatal care, working closely with our OBGYNs to ensure you receive the right care, from the right expert, at the right time. We know every pregnancy is unique, and our trusted team of midwives, OBs, and care navigators is here to support you in the moments that matter most—whether it's during your anatomy ultrasound or when you need a referral for mental health support.

Does Oula take insurance?

Yes, we do! We are in-network with most major insurance providers, including some Medicaid carriers. Note that each insurance company has dozens of plans, so we’ll need to verify the eligibility of your exact plan.

When should I schedule my first visit?

Unlike standard maternity care, we’ll see you as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test. Your pregnancy care at Oula starts with a Pregnancy Intake visit, regardless of how far along you are.
